Obituary: William A. Bates

William A. "Billy" Bates, 84, of Prescott, Ariz., formerly of Oak Brook, Ill., was born in Pitcairn, Pa., on Dec. 14, 1927. He entered into rest on Nov. 23, 2012.

He was retired president of family-owned Page Engineering Co. in McCook, Ill. He had many friends to whom he enjoyed telling his famous one-liners everywhere he went. People enjoyed his humorous antics and his company. He left this earth pain-free, finally.

Thank you to Good Samaritan Hospice and caregiver Lisa for their great care. He will join his late wife, Lois, son Bill, daughter Marion Nicholson and brother Don.

He leaves behind his loving daughter Cherrie and son-in-law Bryan Whipple; grandchildren Dawn (Pete) Holmquist of Geneva, Ill.; grandson Jim (Jennifer) Wiesner of W. Chicago, Ill.; Aimee (Rob) Redding of Wadsworth, Ill.; and Gary (Angela) Nicholson of Mesa, Ariz. He was a great-grandfather of nine, and he will miss his first great-great-granddaughter due in February. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and countless friends who were always there to help him. Grandpa Cowboy, we all love you and miss you. Rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Yavapai Humane Society in Prescott, Ariz., appreciated.

Visitation is from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, and services will follow at 1 p.m. at Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85257. www.greenacresmortuary.net.
