Obituary: Janice Kathryn Lane Miller

Janice Kathryn Lane was born in 1947 in San Diego, Calif. She received a bachelor's degree in psychology from San Diego State University. Working as Coordinator of Admissions at Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, Calif., in 1976, she met student and future husband Russell Miller.

During their 33-year marriage, she worked in retail, published a children's book called "The Common Tale of Two Dragons," taught preschool, and worked as a comic book colorist, writer, and finally a school librarian at Mingus Springs Charter School in Chino Valley, Ariz. After enduring a series of surgical procedures and daunting recoveries lasting well over a year, she passed through the veil peacefully at home at 7 a.m. on Nov. 26, 2012, surrounded by her family.

She was a quietly inspiring woman who took on hardships with grace, dignity and an often wicked wit. She enjoyed playing the Irish whistle, reading, traveling and gardening, specializing in tomatoes and herbs. She is survived by a sister, Carole Batchelder of Ohio; husband Russell Miller; and two grown children, James Erik Miller and Kristin Deanne Miller, all of whom live in Chino Valley and Prescott, Ariz.

Information provided by survivors.

You made an impact on my daughter at Mingus Springs. She always spoke of you and she always made a point to pray for you. I know that you are an angel watching over your family and all the children that you cared for.

Thank you,

Dear Russ & Family,
I was deeply saddened to learn of Janice's passing. Russ, you brought the beauty and bravery of your wife to us all when you wrote for the Chino Valley Review. We learned she was a wonderful wife, mother, author, champion of children, and so much more! Hugs, dear friend, no cliches here: words do not convey my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to you, your family and friends, and all the children whose lives were enriched by Janice's many talents.
May the Peace that Passes All Understanding be yours in this time of loss.
I'm here to listen anytime as I'm totally disabled now - Facebook or Phone Book. God Bless, your former student, Cheryl Dillenbeck, RN

Thank you for caring for our children these many years. They, and we, will be better for that. Rest in Peace.
